It was great to get started with two games even with a couple of the girls not available. The first game allowed us to see who felt comfortable with each other as well as shake off some of the nerves of being with a new team. With plenty of play time the scoring was somewhat balanced. More impressive was the way the girls moved the ball.
Between games things turned out better than expected. After a snack all the girls ended up on an open court having fun and enjoying each other's company. As coaches, it is important to us that the girls are friends. It makes for a smoother transition and better learning environment. The highlight may have been the four half court shots Jillian threw in.

The second game seemed more of a challenge especially with the loss of Cassandra. The girls played well but they all needed to play positions that they might not have played before but definitely will play again. Although a little sluggish at first we clearly turned up our play with some good defense and some clutch shooting. Fortunately for us, we came up with the win even though our missed shots far outweighed the made ones. We will need to work on that right away.
Overall, I was glad we got the opportunity to play and I hope the girls are too.

The competition in the first true weekend of the AAU season turned out to be a little easier than we first may have thought, especially with a shortened week of practice and only one day with a full team. I liked much of what I saw but recognized things to work on to make us a better team as well as better coaches.
The first game against the NH Twisters appeared to be lopsided, but much of that was due to good team defense and good ball movement on offense. We were able to experiment with many things and on both ends of the floor as well as positional play. Great team basketball. Each person contributed to the win.
The second game against the Bay State Jaguars started out very slowly. That is somewhat a concern to me because when you give your opponent the belief they can win they usually can. NOT GOOD PRECEDENT. The turn around for our team, down by three, was Sarah diving for a loose ball against two defenders and winning it and spectacular individual defense by Shannon taking the other team's best player out of the game. It became contagious because before we knew it the rest of the team was doing the same. Notably, Marisa turned it up on defense, Melissa ran the floor effectively, Kate L. did a great job picking up the offense. When it was finally over we won handily.
The team has much to work on and with the weekend schedule now in place. Our next opponents should prove to be a better measure of what we can accomplish as a team.
